Extreme Responders

Course Description

Extreme Responders begins with a Dual Enrolled Mendocino College course called Health 202.
 
In the first semester, the student will be taught about advanced first aid in the Emergency Medical Responder course. The student will also learn a full EMT level patient assessment process, be taught advanced skills such as Oxygen Therapy and begin exploring opportunities outside of school - such as job shadowing and First Aid Stand By at all UHS sporting events. On completion of the first semester and Final Test, the student will be certified as an Emergency Medical ResponderAdditionally, the student will have 3 units of college credit at Mendocino College.
 
The second semester is comprised of Wilderness first aid and survival. The student will be posed with the question, “what do you do when…?” T
 
Their entire semester is set up to talk about long term care for emergency medical patients or subjects such as controlling bleeding and securing injuries or building shelters and fire to keep patients warm. A student will work through a basic rope rescue class and a career readiness course. The entire year professionals will constantly be in and out of the classroom talking about career opportunities and teaching classes on different medical techniques.
 
Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service and Law Enforcement for this course’s primary features, but Hospital care is still part of our goal for coverage with this course.
