Principal’s Wildcat Watch - From Dr. Alvarez
We have two more weeks of classes for the remainder of the first semester, and for 2024! Now is the time to support your student by checking on their classwork/makeup work status, ensuring they attend tutorial whenever possible, and that they are getting enough sleep! Their wellbeing and goals for success are equally valuable and important to set the standard at home as well as in school.
Students will have opportunities to earn prizes for good AND improved attendance during the first semester, which ends Friday, December 20th. Encourage your student to be on time to classes and continue to attend school as we head towards Winter Break.

Supporting Timeliness and Personal Responsibility
At Ukiah High School, we are continuously working with staff and students to implement practices that support the growth and development of the teens on our campus. One area we’ve identified for improvement is restroom usage during breaks.
Currently, we’ve observed that many restrooms remain mostly empty during morning break and lunch, with large groups of students entering at the last minute. This often results in delays, causing some students to be late to their next class despite the generous amount of time provided—15 minutes during morning break and 35 minutes at lunch.
To address this, starting after winter break, all student restrooms will close at the 3-minute warning bell and reopen 5 minutes after the next class period begins. This procedure, already in place at our middle schools, encourages students to use their break times wisely and ensures smoother transitions to class.
Students will still have access to restrooms as needed by requesting a pass once classes are underway. Our goal is to help students develop time-management skills, promote consistent on-time attendance, and reduce the congestion and distractions caused by large groups at the start of class.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations and helping students build habits that contribute to their success both in school and beyond.
